Imagine journalism as a wild family 'on the record' reunion. Your grandma accidentally blurts out her deepest darkest secrets during the toast – it's out there, Aunt Mildred pen poised jots it down. If grandma suddenly yells 'can we take it out ...Aunt Mildred?' in the middle of this "on the record" party, it'd be like asking the entire gathering to somehow erase the embarrassing story from their minds. Impossible ...and unethical. Plus grandma was told before the gathering that this was an 'on the record' party so ...really grandma has no right to ask Aunt Mildred to erase the story. Good on you Aunt Mildred for sticking to your guns!!!
